Our mission
The Castle Combe Collective was formed by residents and landowners who share a simple belief: that decisions about the future of this village and its surrounding countryside should be made openly, together, and with proper regard for its protected status.
Castle Combe Collective is a volunteer-led community group formed by residents, landowners and neighbours who care deeply about the future of Castle Combe and the surrounding countryside.
That shared belief plays out in different ways — from the practical (organising events, looking after shared spaces, supporting the village hall) to the more formal (tracking planning applications and environmental matters). Both matter equally to us.
We believe that a village is more than its buildings and landscape; it is the people, history and shared sense of place that give it its character. Our purpose is to support informed community engagement and encourage thoughtful discussion about matters affecting the village and its surroundings.
The Collective exists to help residents understand local issues, participate in consultations and engage constructively with public bodies and decision-makers. We represent the views of our members and participating residents, while recognising that a healthy community includes a range of perspectives.
Castle Combe Collective is a non-partisan community organisation. We are independent of political parties, developers, landowners and statutory authorities.
We are not a council, and we don't oppose change for its own sake. We exist to:
- 01Support community life — helping connect residents, support local events and village activities, and keep people informed about what's happening locally.
- 02Look after the local environment — supporting practical care of the By Brook valley, local wildlife and green spaces, alongside the formal protections that cover them.
- 03Track planning applications, consultations and proposals that could affect the village or countryside.
- 04Make sure the wider community — not just a small group — has a say in matters that affect everyone.
- 05Speak with a clear, credible voice on behalf of our members when engaging with Wiltshire Council, Castle Combe Parish Council, landowners and developers when needed.
Who we are
Castle Combe Collective is a volunteer-run, non-partisan community group. Our members and supporters include residents, homeowners and landowners from across Castle Combe and the surrounding area, brought together by a shared interest in the future of the village. We are open to anyone who cares about Castle Combe and wishes to contribute to informed discussion, community engagement and the careful consideration of matters affecting the village and its surroundings.
Why we exist
Castle Combe is a small, close-knit community that also happens to attract significant visitor interest — bringing real opportunities alongside real pressures. Looking after a place like this takes more than one thing: it takes people organising village life, people caring for the countryside on the doorstep, and people paying attention when decisions are being made about its future. The Collective exists to help with all three.
The Collective may share factual information on matters of community interest affecting Castle Combe and its surroundings, to support residents in forming their own views. These views reflect the perspectives of participating members and contributors and are intended to encourage informed discussion and engagement.
Where concerns are raised by residents, we aim to ensure they are based on publicly available information and addressed through constructive dialogue with the relevant authorities. We recognise that communities can hold different views and welcome respectful discussion.
